Open source
Run your own Stoa.
Stoa is MIT licensed. The same code that runs stoareads.app can run your club on your own domain, with your own database, for free on Cloudflare or on any server with Node.
Why it's open
A book club's history is years of what people read and what they thought of it. That shouldn't depend on one company staying in business or keeping its prices. With Stoa you can always take the code and your club and carry on.
Hosted or your own
- On stoareads.app: start a club in a minute. We run it, free.
- Your own Stoa: one club per deployment, on your domain, branded as your club. Invite-only if you like.
Put it online in ten minutes
Stoa has no framework and no build step. It runs as a Cloudflare Worker with D1, which the free plan covers, or as a Node server with SQLite.
git clone https://github.com/sephmard/stoareads-app.git
cd stoareads-app
npm install
npm start # http://localhost:8787
Then follow docs/DEPLOY.md to put it on Cloudflare, add email reminders and use your own domain. docs/BRAND.md explains how to give it your club's colors, type and logo.
Built on good neighbours
- Venn finds the date that suits everyone. It's open source too.
- Open Library supplies book details and covers.
- Tenor Sans and Literata, both under the SIL Open Font License.
